Shop Story

Being 7 is awesome!

At this age, most kids are in second grade, and getting more and more independent, seemingly by the minute. It’s an exciting time as you see your 7-year-old reading without help and finally understanding what day, week and month it is! As in, there are only 8 more months until they turn 8.

Meanwhile, 7 is about forming big opinions. They love a certain book and won’t read anything else! They hate wearing jeans, and insist you buy only stretchy pants! In addition to (really) knowing what they want, 7 is the age kids develop a true sense of self-awareness, and the ability to reflect on the world around them. They probably share a lot of their observations and questions. And more observations and questions. And more observations. And questions.

At 7, kids are still carefree, playing and burning off mad energy. Even if your child is all about riding bikes, coloring, just lost their first tooth and still cuddles with a teddy bear at night, they may deal with important issues like bullying, peer pressure and struggling to handle criticism at school or in sports. Talk to your child about their day, and get to know their teachers, coaches and friends. A standing family game night is a great way to stay connected to your increasingly competitive cutie, whom you may notice is eager to solve problems and learn new things.

Raising a 7-year-old is fun and challenging. And sometimes (so very) overwhelming. Buying a gift for them shouldn’t be. So read on to find out what toys kids their age are totally freaking out over, including video games, board games, functional finds, books and gadgets that are just about having fun. You’re sure to come across something that is just right for your sweet, sassy, smarty-pants 7-year-old.
