Kim Kardashian West knows a thing or two about being a mom. She has four kids with her husband, Kanye West, and between her and her famous siblings, they have a whopping 10 kids all together. So that’s why her latest SKIMS collection makes perfect sense.

The SKIMS Maternity line launches today, and there’s already tons of excitement — and a bit of controversy — surrounding the products. The new line includes several maternity must-haves, like the Maternity Sculpt Bra, which is lightweight and designed to protect against leaks during nursing. There’s also a Maternity High Waist Brief, which can also be worn during and after pregnancy and offers support and protection for women who’ve had C-sections.

The collection also includes updates to SKIMS mainstays like a Maternity Mid Thigh Short, Maternity Solutionwear Tight, and a Mid Thigh Bodysuit. While the shapewear is meant to lift and support your body during pregnancy, it’s actually not compressive in the mid-section to allow for a growing baby bump. Styles are available in nine different shades and sizes XXS to 4X, with prices ranging from $34-$68.

While we think the collection is a smart idea given that women’s bodies need a lot of support while pregnant, the announcement was met with a bit of backlash. Some people commented on Kardashian-West’s Instagram that women shouldn’t need shapewear while pregnant, but the SKIMS founder was quick to defend herself and her company. She took to her Instagram stories writing, “To anyone who has an issue with maternity solutionwear, and if you haven’t been pregnant before you may not know the struggle of what it’s like carrying all of this weight the way I did along with millions of strong women.”

She continued by explaining the function of the maternity collection, saying, “It provides support to help with the uncomfortable weight being carried in your stomach, which affects your lower back — and the compression on the leggings helps with pain relief caused by swelling.”

Even Kardashian-West’s BFF Chrissy Teigen chimed in saying, “This is not about creating a body that we don’t know we have.” Teigen, who posted several videos of herself wearing the maternity shapewear on Instagram, continued with, “We’re not trying to do anything to trick you, we’re pregnant. We would just like to feel good about ourselves in a time where mentally, it can be really challenging.”
