Actress Beverley Mitchell Reveals How She Threw Her Daughter the Perfect Birthday Tea Party
by Bethany Braun-Silva
Beverley Mitchell is best known for playing Lucy on 7th Heaven, but she has spent the last few years raising her kids and writing about it on her blog, Growing Up Hollywood. She recently celebrated her daughter Kenzie’s sixth birthday with a fun tea party. We talked to Beverley about her party planning must-haves and how moms can actually enjoy their kid’s party rather than stressing over every last detail.
What inspired the theme for Kenzie’s sixth birthday?
I wanted to do something different and outside. What screams SPRING better than a tea party!
How much planning went into the event?
As soon as I decided to do the Tea Party, I knew I wanted to do it at Westlake Village Inn, because they have the most beautiful grounds. That was my starting place. Once I locked the location, we begun pulling all the pieces together, one of which was calling my dear friend Chrissy from Good Carma Studio for help. She took my theme and went for it. We got our favorite cake from Polkatots—Mel is so amazing. I just tell her the theme, let her go crazy and create her magic. Her cupcake cakes never disappoint! My favorite part of parties is spoiling our guests, so I teamed up with Stephen Joseph gifts to have the beautiful Paint Your Own Tea Sets which the kids loved. We also had cute purses, labels from Mabel’s Labels, and we personalized bags from Arla Creations. The incredible flowers from Bashful Rose really brought the table together. And the last-minute and most amazing addition was the mini-manicures by Spoiled Rotten Events, which truly was a hit.
Do you have tips for moms who want to throw a Instaworthy bash for their own little ones?
Honestly, create a board and PLAN PLAN PLAN! The more you do before the day of the better. Put in the time and have a clear vision, and if friends offer to help, let them help!
What was your favorite part of the party?
The best part of the day was watching my little lady play with her friends and have the time of her life. It was also great for all the adults who actually got to sit down and enjoy a beautiful day, incredible food, and talk. I loved connecting with all the parents who have now become our friends.
Do you have tips for moms on how to relax and enjoy on the day of the party?
The key to actually enjoying the party is having a photographer photograph the event so you’re not only in the pictures, but you can enjoy and know that all those moments will be captured. I feel so often as mothers we are the ones documenting our family and get lost and left out, so by hiring someone or even designating someone to get the pictures is key.
