The best potty seats and chairs to help with potty training!

Potty training is tough, but choosing a potty doesn’t have to be. Like with all toddler gear, there are tons of potties and potty seats on the market, and picking the right one can be the key to making potty training go much more smoothly. You want your child to feel comfortable enough to start to be able to use the potty on their own, which means added features like handles or a step stool can make a big difference. Of course, it’s a messy job for parents too, so be sure to keep that in mind (how could you forget?) when choosing a potty. Pro tip: Potties with removable inner seats make for much easier cleanup.

If you’re feeling confused about which toilet-training tool is best for your toddler, don’t be. We’re providing relief by offering a guide on exactly what to look for in a potty, plus the best potties out there right now. Good luck, parents! We promise it gets a lot less gross from here on out.

Types of Potties

Though there are a lot of potties on the market, there really are only two types you need to decide between.

        • Potty Chair

A potty chair is a standalone potty that is placed on the floor. It’s small and perfect for your toddler to get on and off with little or no help. They usually have a removable inner basin for more convenient cleaning.

        • Potty Seat

A potty seat goes directly on top of your toilet, decreasing its size so that your toddler can sit on it comfortably. The upside is that cleaning is minimized significantly, as your child can just flush and go. But you will need a step stool so that your child can reach the toilet on their own.

Why You Need a Potty

Many toddlers are afraid of the toilet. After all, it’s loud, it’s big, and the thought of using it can be just too much for little ones to process. That’s why kids younger than 3 can really benefit from having their very own potty chair. It’s a much more manageable size and better suited for their little bodies. If your child is already 3, a potty seat can be a convenient and less messy choice.

What Reviewers Are Saying:
I’ve potty trained 4 older children so we’ve been through all types of potty’s through the years, this by far is my favorite. It’s no frills, easy to clean, comfortable, and lightweight. My toddler doesn’t mind sitting here she isn’t afraid of it or overly interested like it’s a toy. She knows it’s purpose and so far it has been an easy transition from diapers to potty. Highly recommend the BABYBJORN Potty Chair!

The BabyBjorn is easy to clean, and it's contoured seat is the most comfortable I've seen. (Honestly, getting a potty learner to sit on something with a hole in the bottom is hard enough, why make the seat uncomfortable?) The side handles help them to "aim" their behind better, and the insert easily lifts out for dumping and detailed cleaning, and there are no corners, anywhere, for dirt to hide in.

Our daughter enjoys this chair. We looked around trying to decide what potty chair to get our 19 month old. This is the perfect size for our daughter, and she recognizes it as "potty". The back is high enough to support her, and cleanup is easy enough. She can run and get on it on her own, and the front shield is the right height.
